“I believe the key to happiness is to focus on being an inspiration to others, focus on sharing joy and laughter with those you love, and focus on something you look forward to with anticipation and excitement.”
See "My Intro" below for my introduction, followed by a brief bio:
My name is Nancy Lohman. As a 56-year-old, married, stereotypical baby boomer, I am happy, grateful, reflective and a bit materialistic. Throughout my life, my optimism, positive attitude, resilience and work ethic have come naturally.
“Nothing is unrealistic if you believe you can do it.” I was raised in a middle class family, my father was a USAF-B52 pilot and my mother was a school teacher, after having gone back to college while I was a teenager. We ultimately settled in Ohio. My teenage years were tumultuous. My parents divorced, my younger brother died in a traumatic accident, my mother remarried and so I created my escape route. I graduated from high school early and headed off to The Ohio State University.
“We don’t remember days, we remember moments.” I had a fabulous time in college, enjoying my days as a resident adviser, an orientation assistant, and a campus organizer. I graduated with a degree in Human Ecology (1981) and was honored to serve that year as Ohio State University’s homecoming queen.
“It’s not the destination but the journey that matters.” I enjoyed a career path that led to Atlanta, GA and Eastman Kodak Company. I met and married my husband Lowell, a cemeterian. Eventually we relocated to Florida where I joined him in the death-care profession as a licensed funeral director and certified celebrant. Several years ago we sold our funeral homes and cemeteries and I continue to work for the firm as director of corporate development. It has been through my experiences in deathcare that I realize a person’s true resume is their eulogy.
“Successful people do things unsuccessful people aren’t willing to.” I have committed myself to making a difference in both our community and my profession. I have enjoyed leadership roles as both president of our chamber of commerce and president of our national trade association as well as many other organizations. I have longed to earn my graduate degree and discovered Gonzaga University’s leadership communication graduate program many years ago. I now have the opportunity to effectively commit to achieving this goal and have enjoyed how it has stretched me to “go back to school”.
“My sense of balance is directly proportional to the extent of gratitude in my daily life.” I am grateful for good wine, football and socializing with friends. I love to travel and am an avid shutterbug. My hobbies include creating digital photo books. My downtime includes appreciating our coastal sunsets and giving lots of love and attention to my husband and our three furry treasures. Lowell and I celebrate our 25th anniversary this October and have lived in Ormond Beach, FL, our little sparkling city-by-the-sea, for 21 years.
